False Start - Jasper Johns

Price in US $ - 80 million

Jasper Johns
is an American contemporary artist who works primarily in painting and printmaking. The False Start is one of his popular oil paintings made on a canvas 170.8 centimeters long and 137.2 centimeters wide - best described as second generation abstract expressionist.

His fixation on technical procedures defines the work of art as almost a kind of utilitarian object—as if the function of a painting were, first and foremost, to describe itself.

Triptych, 1976 - Francis Bacon

Price in US $ - 86,300,000

Francis Bacon was born in Dublin in 1909 and died in Madrid in 1992. Throughout and beyond his lifetime, his work has been exhibited widely. Bacon's artwork is known for its bold, austere, homoerotic and often violent or nightmarish imagery, which typically shows room-bound masculine figures isolated in glass or steel geometrical cages set against flat, nondescript backgrounds.

In Bacon's art, modernity and tradition converge. In his gut-wrenching serialisation of the human body and its sensations, he shows himself to be the unflinching witness of the hysterical reality of the body and the primal fear of those who inhabit it.
