A Wheat Field with Cypresses - Vincent Van Gogh

Price in US $ - 57 million

.

The last two years of Van Gogh's life were productive of marvelous pictures--painted though they were under constant strain. During this period he traveled far from his Impressionist starting-point. The equable balance of Impressionism was replaced by an emotional turbulence.

This picture appears as a whole in the multitude of curves that twist and turn and repeat themselves throughout. The Neo-Impressionist juxtaposition of near-primary colors was also exaggerated to a point of intense brilliance.

From Picasso's Blue Period (1905); he created the painting during the most critical period of his life; when he was suffering of continuous depression from the death of his dear friend Carlos Casagemas. The brilliant painting is the last in the list of Picasso's Japanese themed paintings. The painting is considered as a blue period masterpiece. No doubt the painting is a great artwork and masterpiece in all respects. The painting perfectly combines all the magic, mystery and melancholy of Picasso's Blue period.

Triptych, 1976 - Francis Bacon

Price in US $ - 86,300,000

bacon

Francis Bacon was born in Dublin in 1909 and died in Madrid in 1992. Throughout and beyond his lifetime, his work has been exhibited widely. Bacon's artwork is known for its bold, austere, homoerotic and often violent or nightmarish imagery, which typically shows room-bound masculine figures isolated in glass or steel geometrical cages set against flat, nondescript backgrounds.

In Bacon's art, modernity and tradition converge. In his gut-wrenching serialisation of the human body and its sensations, he shows himself to be the unflinching witness of the hysterical reality of the body and the primal fear of those who inhabit it.
